Zachary started playing the violin at the age of five, and except for a brief, one-year break, he has been playing ever since.  He thoroughly enjoys playing, especially if it involves improvising.  Zachary graduated from St. Olaf College with a Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance in 2009. He hopes that his playing will spawn some sort of career, but he is not sure what form that career will take.  In addition to Urthema, he is a co-founder of the Lirica Chamber Ensemble.  Besides extensive experimentation with jazz violin, he also plays mandolin and jazz piano.  As for nonmusical things, Zachary enjoys many things that begin with the letter "c," such as coffee, cats, cotton, clouds, candy, cotton candy, creeks, and tea.
